Yi-LAN was born in Chengdu in 1977 and grew up in the Qilian Mountains in the northwest of China. He is a contemporary artist and the founder of Hai-Lan-Tang Art, as well as the co-founder of Calacala Art and Boundless (formerly: White Hole) Gallery. He currently works and lives in Beijing and Shanghai. Yi-LAN graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute with a bachelor's degree in oil painting in 1999, won the gold medal of the 8th Annual Exhibition of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1998, and graduated from the Spatial Object Modeling Department of BESANCON, France in 2003. Yi-LAN has held nearly 100 solo and joint exhibitions in France, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, China, Taiwan, China, etc. Yi-LAN has initiated cross-border cooperation many times, and designed and created related works for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Swarovski, and Shede Wine. He is the designer and illustrator of the overall map of the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Center for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and has produced overall large-scale multimedia installation works for Tangyi Group Life Sciences and Yi-LAN Art Center. His digital animation works have been invited to participate in the Madrid International Film Festival in Spain. Yi-LAN's works have been widely collected by private collectors and public institutions in Asia, Europe and America, such as France, Switzerland, Italy, Britain, Germany, the United States, South Korea, China, etc., such as Samsung Museum of Art in South Korea, Sichuan Shede Art Center, Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, etc. Yi-LAN's creation revolves around the main lines of life's roots and evolution, primitive totems, and earth civilization. His works are wild and full of tension, colorful, full of mysterious charm and imagination. By using mixed materials, his works shine in the dark. He tries to bring light into each work, which is deeply oriental, international and contemporary, and highly recognizable. As one of the few field artists in China, Lan Yi's works are not limited to the magnificent landscapes in his imagination. He is committed to the ultimate exploration of the spatialization of his works. He uses "winding wires", fluorescence, and body tissue as his iconic artistic language to build a peculiar relationship between people and space, light, smell, and sound in a brand new world.
